“What to Eat” is an app designed to solve the daily question: what am I going to eat today?
Using a spin-the-wheel style interface, it offers instant suggestions based on your preferences, whether cuisine type, dietary restrictions, or meal category. It’s fun, fast, and free to try.
Why we built it
We saw how frequently people waste precious time agonizing over meal choices. We wanted to gamify that decision — turn something tedious into something playful. Moreover, the “spin the wheel” metaphor fits our brand’s lighthearted, social style.
Feature Highlights
- Customizable wheel categories (e.g. breakfast, lunch, vegan, etc.)
- Instant suggestions with minimal taps
- Clean UI design so you don’t overthink choices
- Ad-supported version to keep it accessible
App Metrics & Reception
On Google Play, “What to Eat” has surpassed 100,000 downloads. Users appreciate how it turns mealtime indecision into a quick, enjoyable experience. Recent updates have focused on smoothing animations and ensuring the suggestion wheel spins reliably.
Lessons & Development Notes
One key challenge was balancing randomness versus relevance. If the app suggests something wildly off (e.g. “sushi” when you’re craving pasta), users get frustrated.
We spent time optimizing weights so suggestions still feel spontaneous yet reasonable. Also, we paid special attention to performance and smoothing animations so the spin feels satisfying.
